Ingredients

For the Steak:

  • 4 cube steaks about 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying

For the White Sausage Gravy:

  • 1/4 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Steak:

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk to create an egg wash.
  • Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, dip it into the egg wash, and then coat it again in the flour mixture. Press gently to ensure an even coating.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry each steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

White Sausage Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Remove any excess grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the skillet.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir until evenly coated. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  • Season with black pepper and salt to taste. Serve the gravy over the fried steak.
