For the Steak:
- 4 cube steaks about 1/2 inch thick
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
For the White Sausage Gravy:
- 1/4 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Steak:
In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk to create an egg wash.
Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, dip it into the egg wash, and then coat it again in the flour mixture. Press gently to ensure an even coating.
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry each steak for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
White Sausage Gravy:
In the same skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Remove any excess grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the skillet.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir until evenly coated. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
Season with black pepper and salt to taste. Serve the gravy over the fried steak.
